Wildomar’s ban on dispensaries has been in place since the city’s incorporation in 2008. In a setback for medical marijuana advocates, the planning commission on Wednesday voted 3-2 to recommend the council uphold the ban. The council is expected to take up the issue next month.

The commission also recommended that, if the council passes the law, it limit the city to two dispensaries.

Six MedCare members argued in favor of lifting the ban during the commission’s public hearing.

“We’re not fighting just for us, we’re fighting for a group of people that need care,” Larsen, himself a medical marijuana patient, said during an interview Thursday.

MedCare Cooperative is a delivery service run from a one-room office in a non-descript Temecula Business Park.

No marijuana is stored or sold at the office, said Orrin Larsen, one of the nonprofit collective’s seven employees.

The collective has about 200 patients, from Fallbrook to Corona. Some pay a monthly membership fee in exchange for discounts on regular delivery and rewards like t-shirts and a special “birthday blunt.”

Larsen said if granted a permit, the group would like to open a combination dispensary and health-and-wellness operation in Wildomar. The office would offer acupuncture and chiropractic services, in addition to marijuana.

Larsen said many members, especially those with children, don’t like having the marijuana delivered to their homes. Others would rather go to a storefront location rather than waiting for a delivery.
